Body type significantly influences what strategy should be followed for one who is interested in competing in natural bodybuilding events. The three body types are: mesomorphs, ectomorphs and endomorphs. Ectomorphs have the highest metabolic rates; followed by mesomorphs next, andendomorphs have the slowest metabolic rate. Someone is rarely 100% one particularbody type though; people are usually a combination of body types. Those who are closer to the ectomorph body type will need to consume more calories per day to make better muscle gains, since their bodies burn calories faster, whereas those closer to the endomorph body type will need to watch the types of food they eat, since their bodies are more prone to holding onto calories.
